Central Jersey Invitational 2010 Runners-up

U12 Boys go undefeated throughout tournament and narrowly miss out on goal difference!

Ocean City FC U12 Boys competed in the Central Jersey invitational on the weekend of July 17 and 18. The boys first game was against Stonesoccers STA/ Morris County Colonials white thus resulted in a promising 3-1 win for Ocean City with Adam Petinga scoring twice and Andrew Griggs scoring once. The second game on the Saturday was against TSF Academy which resulted in a second successive 3-1 victory. Timmy Brown opened the scoring for Ocean City FC, the second from Tommy Cusack and was then followed by a second goal of the tournament for Andrew Griggs. After two wins the Ocean City FC U12 boys had put themselves into a strong position on the first day with two remaining games on the Sunday, to win the tournament they had to top their group.

On Sunday midday the team played LIJSL Select ODP in this game the team had a shaky start conceding an early goal, the team battled back well and were able to score before half time with another goal from Tommy Cusack. The second half was very close but with 5 mintues to go a cross from Adam Petinga was missed by the goalkeeper to see Andrew Griggs follow up and score his third and most vital goal of the tournament.

The final game saw the two unbeaten teams come together to battle for the Central Jersey Invitational 2010 title. Ocean City FC knew only a win would see them lift the title as their opposition, North Brunswick Arsenal, had a superior goal difference from their previous three games. Ocean City FC played very well keeping possession of the ball for the first 10 minutes of the game. Ocean City won a free kick about 45 yards from goal, Ben Clark stepped up and scored the free kick which he managed to do in the previous tournament. The boys managed to maintain their 1-0 lead taking it into half time. The second half started with North Brunswick attacking quickly managing to get an early equaliser the tie was short lived as North Brunswick managed to score a quick second when they played a ball over the top of the Ocean City FC defensive line. Ocean City FC were playing tough winning strong challenges and dominating the game - they managed to score an equaliser when Victor Figueroa played a ball down the line for Emilio Cortez to run on and beat a player to send a perfect cross into the box where Adam Petinga was there to meet the ball with a great header. The game would finish 2-2 with both teams finishing the tournament undefeated, the Ocean City FC U12 boys were proud of their achievements and took the runners up medal.
