Heartbreaker: Ocean City eliminated from playoff contention on late equalizer

Reading United scores in second half stoppage time to end Nor'easters' playoff hopes

The Ocean City Nor’easters’ playoff hopes were ended on Saturday night with a 1-1 draw against Reading United at Carey Stadium. John Fletcher scored in the 64th minute to put the home team up 1-0, but Reading scored a late equalizer, three minutes into second half stoppage time to break the hearts of the Ocean City fans.

With the draw, the maximum points that the Nor’easters can achieve from their final three games is 25 points and with Reading, who occupy the second and final playoff spot in the Mid-Atlantic Division, getting a point tonight gives them 28 points.

The only silver lining tonight is that Ocean City remains unbeaten all-time against Reading at home (5-0-2) and improve their all-time record against Reading to 6-1-5.
