2019 Nor'easters in the Pros report

With 2019 drawing to a close, it's time to take a look at how all of our former Ocean City Nor'easters are currently performing at the professional level (in alphabetical order).

Akeil Barrett (Akron / Tulsa / Kingston, Jamaica)

Ocean City 2017
Tulsa Roughnecks (USL Championship)

After playing in the Antigua and Barbuda Premier Division in 2018, Barrett returned stateside to play professionally in the city where he went to college at the University of Tulsa. Barrett signed with the Roughnecks of the USL Championship, joining two other former Ocean City players: Fredlin "Fredinho" Mompremier and Frantzly Zephrin. Barrett played in eight games during the 2019 season, making three starts.

Donald Benamna signed with Stumptown Athletic for their inaugural season in the Division 3 professional National Independent Soccer Assocaition (NISA). In the league's Fall Showcase event, Benamna helped Stumptown reach the championship game where they fell to Miami FC. Benamna scored a pair of goals in the competition.

Nate Bourdeau (Rutgers / Baldwinsville, NY)
Ocean City 2012
Utica City FC (MASL)

Nate Bourdeau has kicked off his eighth season of indoor soccer and he played a big role in a massive season for Utica City FC last year. The former Rutgers standout led UCFC to the MASL playoffs, only to fall short against fellow Ocean City alum Tony Donatelli and the Baltimore Blast. Bourdeau was fourth on the team in scoring with 12 goals, 13 assists (25 points) and is returning to the club for the 2019/2020 season which has already begun.

Keasel Broome (Providence / Claymont, DE)

Ocean City 2013
Pittsburgh Hotspurs (NPSL) / Barbados National Team

After recovering from an injury during the 2018 season, Keasel Broome signed with the Pittsburgh Hotspurs of the NPSL. He split time with the team's other goalkeepers, starting three of the team's 10 matches in what was a tough year for the team (1-7-2). Broome continues to represent Barbados at the international level where he last started a match in the CONCACAF Nations League back in March.

Emil Cuello (SMU / Orem, Utah)
Ocean City 2016
Los Angeles Galaxy (MLS) / LA Galaxy II (USL Championship)

For the fifth year in a row, the Nor'easters had a former player selected in the MLS SuperDraft when Cuello was taken in the First Round (No. 19 overall) by the Los Angeles Galaxy in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft. However, with a star-studded roster, it was unclear how much playing time the former SMU standout would see in his rookie year. Cuello took advantage of some preseason injuries and found himself in the starting lineup in the Galaxy's season opening win against the Chicago Fire. Cuello would play in nine league games, making two starts and dishing out his first MLS assist on a goal by Zlatan Ibrahimović in a 2-0 win over Toronto FC on the Fourth of July. Cuello would also see some playing time with the senior team in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, coming off the bench in both of the team's games, and scoring his first competitive goal for the Galaxy in a 3-0 Fourth Round win over Orange County FC (NPSL).

He also saw time in the League's Cup, including a spectacular equalizer in the Semifinals against Cruz Azul (Mexico). He also earned playing time with LA Galaxy II in the USL Championship, starting six games, scoring one goal and dishing out three assists. Galaxy II won three of their last five games to qualify for the playoffs as a No. 9 seed, but fell in the opening round to Austin Bold FC. The Galaxy senior team would have their season come to an end in the Conference Semifinals to rival and Supporters' Shield winners LAFC.

It was recently announced that Cuello has been re-signed for the 2020 season.

Aaron Dennis (Villanova / Elmont, NY)
Ocean City 2014
New York Cosmos (NISA) / US Virgin Islands National Team

After spending the 2018 season with Penn FC, Dennis signed with the New York Cosmos (NPSL).

Having dual citizenship with the United States and the United States Virgin Islands, Dennis represented the Virgin Islands at the international level, scoring a pair of goals for USVI in the CONCACAF Nations League.

The Cosmos finished the NPSL regular season with an undefeated record (13-0-1), winning the North Atlantic Division and advancing to the NPSL championship game where they fell 3-1 to Miami FC. The Cosmos entered the inaugural NPSL Members Cup. They finished with a 7-1-2 record in the 10-game competition, finishing just two points shy of first place Detroit City FC. Dennis played in just about every league game, scoring two goals. In Members Cup play, he scored three goals. The Cosmos is expected to join the new Division 3 pro league NISA sometime in 2020.

Tim Dobrowolski (Loyola - Chicago / Rockford, IL)
Ocean City 2015
Louisville City FC (USL Championship)

After winning back-to-back USL Championship titles, Louisville City FC had a chance to three-peat but fell one game short. City fell to Real Monarchs in the league's championship game. In 2018, Dobrowolski led Louisville City to the Quarterfinals of the US Open Cup, but this year, he played in just one league game as he backed up Chris Hubbard.

Tony Donatelli (Temple / Glenside, PA)
Ocean City 2004-05
Baltimore Blast (MASL)

Out of the more than 80 Ocean City players who have moved on to play professionally, Tony Donatelli has won the most trophies. By far. In 2018, he helped the Baltimore Blast win the Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) championship for the third year in a row. However, the Blast's quest to win four straight titles in the 2018/19 season came to an end in the Eastern Conference Finals, falling 2-1 (on the road) to the Milwaukee Wave.

Donatelli, a team captain, finished third on the team in scoring with 15 goals and 14 assists (29 points) in 22 regular season games, including three game-winning goals. He has been a great two-way player for the Blast, finishing with the second-most blocks on the team (13), and committing the third fewest fouls of any Blast player. Donatelli also scored three goals and dished out one assist in the MASL playoffs.

For Donatelli, the former Temple University player has won eight professional championships. Five of them with indoor teams (2007 Philadelphia Kixx, 2012/13 Baltimore Blast, 2015/16 Baltimore Blast, 2016/17 Baltimore Blast, 2017/18 Baltimore Blast) and the other three came outdoors in the United Soccer League (2006 Vancouver Whitecaps, 2009 Montreal Impact, 2012 Charleston Battery).

Martim Galvao (Pfeiffer / Lisbon, Portugal)

Ocean City 2016
Sparta FC (Greece)

The year after Martim Galvao helped the Nor'easters reach the USL League Two Semifinals in 2016, he joined the Nashville SC Under-23s. His performance with the U-23s earned him a contract with the senior team in the USL. In August of 2018, Galvao and Nashville SC mutually agreed to terminate his contract to enable him to explore professional opportunities elsewhere. The Portuguese midfielder found an opportunity overseas in the second division of Cyprus with Enosis Neon THOI Lakatima. This past season, he signed with a Greek club Athletic Union of Sparta FC (Sparti) in the country's fourth tier. In his first year with Sparta FC, he played in 12 matches, scoring two goals and dishing out two assists.

Mike Hartmann (Caldwell College / Medford, NJ)
Ocean City 2015
FC Haka (Finland)

Hartmann's third season as the full-time starter with FC Linkoping City in Sweden was another successful one. The Medford, NJ native started 27 matches, finishing with an 15-6-6 record, including 13 clean sheets and a 1.00 goals against average. Hartmann also had a 744-minute shutout streak as FC Linkoping finished in third place in the Swedish First Division (3rd tier), falling three points shy of a promotion playoff spot. Surpringly enough, Hartmann isn't the only Ocean City alum to play for FC Linkoping City. Eric Schoendorf (2015) played for the club during the 2016/17 season.

UPDATE: Hartmann recently announced that he has signed with Finnish club FC Haka.

Max Hemmings (Georgia State / Wokingham, England)

Ocean City 2017-18
Greenville Triumph (USL League One)

Hemmings signed his first pro contract with the Greenville Triumph and he made an impact in his rookie season in USL League One. Hemmings played in 15 games (starting 13) as he helped Greenville finish in third place in the league and earn a spot in the playoffs. After upsetting the No. 2 seed Lansing Ignite on the road, Greenville reached the league championship game against North Texas SC. Unfortunately, they would fall short, losing 1-0. Hemmings also played in both of Greenville's US Open Cup matches, which is where he scored his first professional goal. Max scored the opening goal against the Charleston Battery (USL Championship), only to see the Battery bounce back with a 79th minute equalizer and a stoppage time game-winner.

Brendan Hines-Ike (South Florida / Denver, CO)

Ocean City 2014
KV Kortrijk (Belgian First Division A)

Hines-Ike was drafted by the Montreal Impact of Major League Soccer in 2016, but turned down the offer to sign with Orebro SK in the top division of Sweden. (Allsvenskan). After playing in 17 games in his first season (five starts), he started all 29 games in 2017. After his breakout performance with Orebro SK, he made the switch to the Belgian First Division where he was the largest sale in club history when he was moved to KV Kortrijk (where he broke the club’s transfer fee record). His impact has brought him a lot of attention with many American soccer reporters speculating that his impressive play in Europe could eventually lead to a call-up to the U.S. National Team. The 2019/20 season is already under way and Hines-Ike has maintained his role in the starting lineup, starting 13 matches as the team has hovered around the bottom third of the First Division table.

Richardo Israel (Cincinnati / Freetown, Jamaica)
Ocean City 2013, 2015
Stumptown Athletic (NISA) & Cincinnati Swerve (MASL)

Richardo Israel stayed in the city where he went to college -- Cincinnati -- to play indoor soccer for the Cincinnati Swerve of the MASL. In two seasons with the Swerve, Israel scored 17 goals. Israel has signed with a new club, this time an outdoor soccer team, in the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA): Stumptown Athletic has already gotten off to a great start in their inaugural season, reaching the championship game of NISA's Fall Showcase event.

Miguel Jaime – (Florida Gulf Coast / Denver, CO)

Ocean City 2016
FC Boulder Harpos (Colorado Premier League)

Miguel Jaime played for Penn FC of the USL in 2018, signing his first pro deal. He scored two goals and recorded an assist during the USL regular season. Jaime also excelled in the US Open Cup, scoring a goal in two matches. Penn FC will not play in or the 2019 season as they search for a new stadium. Jaime is currently staying fit by playing for FC Boulder Harpos, an amateur team in the Colorado Premier League. Jaime recently helped Harpos qualify for the 2020 US Open Cup.

Logan Ketterer (Bradley / Racine, WI)
Ocean City 2016
El Paso Locomotive FC (USL Championship)

After being drafted by the Columbus Crew (MLS) in 2017, and seeing limited playing time backing up U.S. international Zack Steffen, Ketterer signed with USL Championship expansion side El Paso Locomotive FC. It was an exciting debut for the El Paso club that finished the season ranked 10th in average home attendance among the 36 teams in the league. El Paso finished as the No. 6 seed in the Western Conference with a 13-10-11 record. After playoff wins over Fresno FC and the Sacramento Republic, the season came to an end in extra time with a 2-1 loss to Real Monarchs SLC in the Western Conference Final. Ketterer earned the starting job and never let it go, starting 35 games. The Bradley University alum finished with the second-most clean sheets of any goalkeeper in the league with 13. It was recently announced that after Ketterer's performance in 2019, the club is bringing him back for the 2020 season.

Mike Kirk (La Salle / Mechanicsburg, PA)

Ocean City 2016
Free Agent (Prev: Lansing Ignite FC of USL League One)

After playing for Rio Grande Valley FC Toros (USL Championship) and the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC (USL Championship), Kirk landed with USL League One expansion team Lansing Ignite FC. Kirk started four league games for Lansing in their inaugural season as he backed up Stephen Cleveland, who was on loan from the Chicago Fire (MLS). Lansing got hot midseason with a 12-game unbeaten streak and finished second in the league table. The season would come to an end in the semifinals of the playoffs, with a 1-0 loss to the Greenville Triumph. Unfortunately, the Lansing Ignite announced that the team would be folding after just one year, so Kirk will be looking for a new club.

Eric Klenofsky (Monmouth / Lincoln Park, NJ)
Ocean City 2014-2015
Toronto FC II (USL League One)

After an outstanding career at Monmouth University, Klenofsky came on the scene after being drafted by D.C. United in the Second Round of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft. With limited minutes available behind U.S. international Bill Hamid, Klenofsky was loaned to the Richmond Kickers of the USL. The Lincoln Park, N.J. native only appeared in one league match. He then took his talents overseas and signed with Hapoel Marmorek FC of the Israeli National League and was a regular starter. He returned back to North America where he signed with Toronto FC II of USL League One. Klenofsky started nine matches for Toronto and led the team in save pecentage, clean sheets (3) and had the fewest goals allowed. Toronto FC II would finish with a 9-11-9 record, good for 7th in the league, seven points short of a playoff spot.

Markhus “Duke” LaCroix (Pennsylvania / New Egypt, NJ)

Ocean City 2012-13
Reno 1868 FC (USL Championship)

After starting the 2017 season with a pair of goals for Orange County SC (USL), Duke LaCroix’s campaign was cut short with a season-ending injury. In 2018, he got back to 100 percent and found a new club in Reno 1868 FC. The former UPenn star scored a goal and was second on the team with five assists in 28 games (23 starts) as he converted from forward to left back where he uses his speed to get up and down the flanks. With his new home at left back and his “rising star” status, Reno signed him for the 2019 season and he played nearly every game (34) and scored three goals as Reno finished in second place in the Western Conference. As the No. 2 seed in the postseason, unfortunately, they were upset in the opening round of the playoffs by No. 7 seed Sacramento Republic.

Derek Luke (Monmouth / Bridgewater Township, New Jersey)

Ocean City 2015
Rio Grande Valley FC (USL Championship)

Luke started his career by playing 29 games for FC Cincinnati (USL) before moving to Rio Grande Valley FC (USL) in 2018. Unfortunately, injuries have cut his playing career short as he decided to retire after multiple knee surgeries.

Issey Maholo (Boston College / Tokyo, Japan)
Ocean City 2006
iCanfield Metro Gallery FC (Hong Kong First Division)

After more than eight years, Maholo continues to moonlight as a goalkeeper in the Hong Kong First Division, while keeping his day job working as a banker. He recenly signed with iCanfield Metro Gallery FC as they try to move up to the Premier League. According to Maholo, the massive anti-government protests have impacted Hong Kong as a whole, and the sport of soccer is not immune. With the economy, schools, businesses and the infrastructure struggling, all soccer games in Hong Kong have been postponed for the last three weekends due to safety concerns from the protests. (PAST STORY ABOUT ISSEY MAHOLO)

John McCarthy (La Salle / Cinnaminson, NJ)
Ocean City 2011-12
Philadelphia Union (MLS) / Bethlehem Steel (USL Championship)

John McCarthy spent the early part of his career as a fan favorite with the Philadelphia Union. He was one of the best backup goalkeepers in Major League Soccer, playing behind Jamaican international and 2016 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year Andre Blake. He also played with the team's USL affiliate, the Bethlehem Steel. But McCarthy began a new chapter in his career with a move to Florida to sign with the Tampa Bay Rowdies of the USL Championship. There he was the starting goalkeeper from day one and in his first season as a full-time starter, he responded by leading his team to a No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Unfortunately, the Rowdies' playoff run was short-lived as they were knocked off by Louisville City FC. McCarthy finished with 10 clean sheets which was tied for sixth among the 36 teams in the league.

His performance with the Rowdies caught the eye of David Beckham's MLS expansion team Inter Miami CF and it was recently announced that he would be joining the club for their inaugural season in 2020.

Steven Miller (Colgate / Ivyland, PA)
Ocean City 2008-09, 2011
North Carolina FC (USL Championship)

In his fourth full season with North Carolina FC (fifth overall), Steven Miller had one of his best statistical seasons as a pro. He moved to midfield and led the team in goals (9), assists (6), and was second in games played (33). The team captain was named to the USL Team of the Week three times and the Player of the Week once. He finishes the year ranked 7th in North Carolina FC history in games played and minutes played. He's also ranked 8th in goals (19), and third in assists (19). NCFC finished in 7th place in the Eastern Conference but they were one-and-done in the playoffs, falling to the Birmingham Legion FC.

Tyler Miller (Northwestern / Woodbury, NJ)
Ocean City 2012
Los Angeles FC (MLS)

Tyler Miller has only been a professional for four years, but it’s been a pretty incredible career so far. After being part of the Seattle Sounders team that won MLS Cup in 2016 and lost in the 2017 MLS Cup Final, Miller was selected No. 1 overall in the MLS Expansion Draft by Los Angeles FC. In the club’s inaugural season in MLS, Miller had a breakout season as the full-time starter. He started 33 matches and led LAFC to a third place finish in the Western Conference and a trip to the MLS Playoffs. Miller finished third in the league in shutouts (10) and his performance earned him a call-up to the U.S. National Team's January camp. In 2019, he maintained his starting job for LAFC who was, far and away, the best team in the league during the regular season, winning the Supporters' Shield for the first time. Unfortunately, LAFC's success didn't translate into the playoffs, as they fell to Miller's old club, the Sounders, 3-1 in the Western Conference Final. Miller finished tied for 6th in the league with nine shutouts, and no one had a lower goals against average (1.00) among any goalkeeper that played in 10 or more games. Miller is currently exploring his options for 2020. LAFC have expressed interest in bringing him back but there have also been media reports of multiple European teams that have expressed interest in his services.

Fredlin "Fredinho" Mompremier (Fairleigh Dickinson / Limbe, Haiti)
Ocean City 2017-18
Tulsa Roughnecks (USL Championship)

After two great seasons with the Nor'easters in 2017 and 2018 (10 goals, 9 assists, 2017 Nor'easter Award winner), Mompremier signed with the Tulsa Roughnecks of the USL Championship, joining fellow Ocean City alums Frantzly Zephirin and Akeil Barrett on the roster. Mompremier made a switch to defender and played in 20 matches (nine starts) and scored his first professional goal, a late game-winner (VIDEO BELOW) against San Antonio FC. Fredinho also made one appearance in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup.

Todd Morton (Delaware / West Chester, PA)

Ocean City 2016-18
Bethlehem Steel FC (USL Championship)

After a little more than two seasons as an Ocean City Nor'easter where he finished as one of the top goalkeepers in club history, Morton signed his first professional contract with the Real Monarchs in the USL Championship. He was later sold to Bethlehem Steel FC for an undisclosed fee and immediately stepped in and played a big role for the Steelmen, starting 10 matches, leading the team in shots faced, saves, and clean sheets (2).

Jordan Murrell (Syracuse / Markham, Ontario)
Ocean City 2013
Valour FC (Canadian Premier League)

After two seasons with Reno 1868 FC, Murrell enjoyed a change of scenery north of the border, signing as a free agent with Valour FC in the newly-formed Canadian Premier League. Murrell stepped into a leadership role right away and playing in 22 games for the Winnipeg club that finished in fifth place with a 5-9-4 record.

Mutaya Mwape (Lindsey Wilson / Lusaka, Zambia)
Ocean City 2016
Richmond Kickers (USL League One)

After Mutaya Mwape helped the Nor’easters reach the PDL (USL League Two) national semifinals in 2016, Mutaya Mwape moved on and helped the Charlotte Eagles win the PDL championship in 2017. His performance caught the eye of the USL’s ‘Charlotte Independence which is where he played during the 2018 season. In 2019, he found a new home with the Richmond Kickers of USL League One, scoring a pair of goals in 23 league games. The Kickers would have a disappointing season, finishing in ninth place overall and missing the playoffs.

Jeremy Ortiz (La Salle / Mt. Laurel, NJ)
Ocean City 2006-08
Rochester Lancers (MASL)

After seven years of playing professioal soccer (both indoor and outdoor), it appeared as though Jeremy Ortiz was ready to hang up his boots. Ortiz had won the Major Arena Soccer League championship with the Baltimore Blast in 2016 and after a two-year hiatus, he signed with the Rochester Lancers (MASL 2), led by head coach Doug Miller. The Lancers finished with an 8-4 record, good for second place in the Eastern Conference and enough to qualify for playoffs. Ortiz scored a goal in Rochester's 4-3 extra time win over the Chicago Mustangs, which put them into the Semifinals.

At the final four in Ontario, Calif., Rochester were edged 11-10 by Cuervos de Juarez, but they ended the season on a positive note, with Ortiz scoring the game-winning goal with 39 seconds left to beat the Las Vegas Knights 8-7 in the third place game. Ortiz finished with eight goals and five assists in 10 matches for the club and has re-signed with the team for the 2019/20 season.

Nicolas Perea (Syracuse / Hollywood, FL)
Ocean City 2013
Indy Eleven (USL Championship)

After two seasons with the Jacksonville Armada of the NASL, and getting limited playing time with Rio Grande Valley FC last season, Perea had a breakout season with the Toros in 2018. Perea was second on the team in games played (30) and minutes played (2,435) and scored three goals. The following season, Perea stopped to play for the Des Moines Menace (USL League Two) where he had two goals and one assist in 13 matches. After the season, he signed with Indy Eleven (USL Championship) last August, playing in five league games (two starts). Indy finished third in the Eastern Conference and reached the Eastern Conference Final before falling to Louisville City FC in extra time.

Ryan Peterson (NC State / Rutgers / Budd Lake, NJ)
Ocean City 2015
Detroit City FC (NISA)

Peterson made a big impact with DCFC, who recently moved from the NPSL to NISA (3rd division pro). Detroit City won their division, but were knocked out of the NPSL playoffs in the regional finals by Cleveland SC. They bounced back in the NPSL Members Cup tournament, winning the inaugural six-team competition with an 8-1-1 record. Peterson scored two goals during the competition. Detroit City will be joining the third division professional National Independent Soccer Association in 2020.

Alex Ridsdale – (Xavier / Nelson, New Zealand)
Ocean City 2015
Tasman United (New Zealand Football Championship)

Risdale has spent the past few seasons in his native country of New Zealand bouncing between two clubs. During the 2016-17 season he scored four goals in 17 games for Tasman United before moving to Southern United where he scored four more goals. Ridsdale returned to Tasman United for the 2018-19 season but left the club midseason. Ridsdale has a new job now: being a new dad. Congrats to Alex and his family on their new addition.

FLASHBACK: When Ridsdale was playing at Xavier, he made ESPN SportsCenter's Top 10 plays of the week with an unbelievable bicycle kick.

Seiji Rose (Jefferson University / Toulouse, France)
Ocean City 2015
Briobecca Urayasu (Japan)

Rose became the first Ocean City alum to sign with a team in Japan, as he played for Briobecca Urayasu in the Kanto Soccer League (5th Division). The club won the regional cup and finished in fourth place in league play, falling just short of having a shot at promotion. As the new kid on the block, Rose had limited playing time in his rookie season, but is thoroughly enjoying his time in Japan.

Dominic Samuel (Southern New Hampshire / Toronto, Ontario)
Ocean City 2014
Forge FC (Canadian Premier League)

After being named League 1 Ontario Defender of the Year for the second time (2015, 2018) as a member of Sigma FC, Samuel signed with Forge FC in the newly-formed Canadian Premier League.

Harry Swartz (Northeastern / Needham, MA)
Ocean City 2015
Hartford Athletic (USL Championship)

Harry Swartz didn't have to travel far to find his first professional contract. The Massachusetts native, who played his college ball at Northeastern University, signed with nearby Connecticut club Hartford Athletic of the USL Championship. He made an immediate impact, playing in and starting 20 games and scoring four goals and assisting on three other goals.

Mitchell Taintor (Rutgers / Storrs, CT)
Ocean City 2013
Sacramento Republic FC (USL Championship)

Taintor has established himself as a mainstay in the Sacramento Republic starting lineup. This year, the defender started 28 of the 31 games he played in and played in the fourth most minutes of anyone on the team. He also scored a pair of goals. The Republic, who were announced as a future MLS franchise, finished as the No. 7 seed in the Western Conference. In the playoffs, the Republic beat New Mexico United in the play-in round, and then upset the No. 2 seed Reno 1868 FC in the Conference Quarterfinals before falling to the El Paso Locomotive in the semis.

Ken Tribbett (Drexel / Centennial, CO)

Ocean City 2013
Nashville SC (USL Championship)

Ken Tribbett continues to be one of the more consistent defenders in the USL Championship. After being named the Midseason Defensive Player of the Year in 2018 with Penn FC, an injury cut his season short. After Penn FC went on hiatus, Tribbett signed with Nashville SC and picked up where he left off, starting 22 of the 25 league games he played in. He led the team in ariel duals won (94), finished second on the team in clearances (93) and interceptions (34), and third on the team in duals won (167). The former Drexel University standout also scored four goals and dished out two assists. Nashville finished with the best defensive record in the entire league, allowing just 26 goals in 34 matches, finishing in second place in the Eastern Conference and earning the third best overall record in the league. Nashville, as the No. 2 seed, would fall in the Conference Semifinals 1-0 to Indy Eleven (No. 3 seed). Next year, Nashville SC will move up to Major League Soccer, and it was recently announced that Tribbett will join the club for their inaugural MLS season in 2020.

Oscar Umar (Villanova / Tamale, Ghana)
Ocean City 2016
Saint Louis FC (USL Championship)

After a solid season and a half with the Richmond Kickers, Oscar Umar has found a new home with Saint Louis FC in 2018. As a defensive midfielder, Umar recorded one goal in 36 appearances with the Kickers, including two games played in the US Open Cup. Umar played in 24 games for Saint Louis FC in 2019, starting 18 games and leading the team in interceptions (35). Unfortunately, Saint Louis FC finished just one point short of qualifying for the postseason with an 11-14-9 record.

Chevy Walsh (Jefferson College / Spanish Town, Jamaica)
Ocean City 2016
Hoang Anh Gia Lai FC (Vietnam)

After Chevy Walsh re-wrote the Nor’easters’ record books in 2016 en route to winning the 2016 PDL MVP award, he chose to sign with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds mid-season rather than return to college. After spending the remainder of the 2016 season and the 2017 season with the Riverhounds, Walsh was not re-signed, making him a free agent.

After taking some time off, he traveled to the other side of the world to find a team and he found it in Vietnam. Walsh signed with Hoang Anh Gia Lai FC of the V-League's First Division. Walsh suffered a mid-season injury and missed the second half of the season, but made the most of the first half of the campaign. He scored eight goals and dished out four assists in 14 games in all competitions. Now that he's back to 100 percent again, he's ready for next season after signing a new contract with the club.

Fun fact: Walsh isn't the first Ocean City alum to play professionally in Vietnam. Chris Williams (2004-06, 2010) played for SHB Da Nang FC during the 2010 season.

Frantzly Zephirin (MidAmerica Nazarene / Montreal, Quebec)

Ocean City 2017
Tulsa Roughnecks FC (USL Championship)
