Cape Cod loss keeps Barons' record intact

Crusaders fall one short of Ocean City's mark of 28 home games without a loss

Between June 14, 2003 and July 12, 2006, the Ocean City Barons Premier Development League (PDL) team failed to suffer a loss at home, a span of 28 matches. The streak was in jeopardy of being matched by one of the club’s east coast rivals, but their unbeaten run came to an end this past weekend.

Since the Barons joined the PDL in 2003, they are tied for the third best home record in the league (32-5-7). The Cape Cod Crusaders, the team that eliminated Ocean City from last year’s conference playoffs, are even better, totaling a 35-4-4 record since 2003. Entering the 2008 campaign, they were one win or draw away from extending their own home unbeaten streak to 28. Unfortunately for them, but fortunately for the Barons, last weekend that streak came to an end with a 2-1 loss to the New Hampshire Phantoms. Even with the loss, the Crusaders still have the second best home record since ’03 as they sit three points behind the PDL’s Chicago Fire for the top spot.

The Colorado Rapids Under 23s are the only team who are currently threatening Ocean City’s mark. Heading into this weekend’s action, Colorado holds a 23-game home unbeaten streak.
