Nor'easters defender Ryan Howe named to PDL Team of the Week

Loyola Chicago product now tied for league lead in assists after three helpers in win over Jersey Express

Ocean City Nor’easters left back Ryan Howe was named to the Premier Development League Team of the Week in week 10 for his fantastic performance vs Jersey Express. Howe assisted on all three goals in the team’s crucial win to make a push for the second playoff spot in the Mid Atlantic Division.

The Loyola University Chicago defender has been a vital piece to the Nor’easters back line playing in eight games so far this season. His three assists against Jersey Express brought his season total to seven, putting him tied for the league lead with teammate Nathan Regis and three others.

In the performance that earned him a spot in the Team of the Week, he assisted Nathan Regis, Miguel Jaime, and Chevaughn “Chevy” Walsh. Walsh's goal in the 87th minute of the match broke the record for most goals in a season in club history (13). He passed Ruben Mingo’s record of 12 which he set in 2004.

Howe became only the fourth player in Ocean City Nor’easters PDL history to record three assists in one match.  He joined Nathan Regis (June 25, 2016 vs Reading United), Byron Carmichael (May 14, 2005 at Westchester Flames), and Frank Tweneboa (July 8, 2012 vs Westchester Flames) as the only players to do so.

Ryan is heading into his senior season at Loyola Chicago where he missed all of last season due to an injury suffered in 2014. He has played in 42 games, starting in 41, scoring four goals, three game winners, and assisting on an additional three.

In his time at college, Howe has received awards for his play including being named to the Horizon League All-Tournament Team in 2012 and being added as an honorable mention to the All-Missouri Valley Conference Team in 2014.

After missing a full season, he is gaining his confidence back on the field and learning the tools to come back even stronger.  Loyola Chicago will be in great shape if Howe continues his fine form into the 2016 season.

Ryan Howe and the Ocean City Nor’easters will be back in action for the season finale on Sunday, July 10 against the Baltimore Bohemians at 5 p.m. at the Tennessee Avenue Soccer Complex. With a win or a draw, the Nor’easters will clinch a playoff spot.
