The big, fast, hard working and experienced Byron Carmichael has been scoring important goals for his team since his youth days at FC Delco. A graduate of Marshall University where he set career marks for goals and points, Byron relishes his role up front and challenges his markers every step of the way.  Challenges he often wins and when he does, so does his team.

Success follows more often than not.

Out of college Carmichael joined the Wilmington (NC) Hammerheads (USL-2) and helped them to a historic run in the U.S. Open Cup where they were finally stopped by DC United of MLS 1-0 in extra time. The Hammerheads, with Carmichael scoring important goals, went on to claim the Second Division national title.

The following season he joined the South Jersey Barons (as they were known at the time) where he scored 10 goals and led the team to an undefeated 2004 season, and a run in the U.S. Open Cup. Byron then moved to the Utah Blitzz in mid-season where he scored the game-winning goal in his very first appearance and eventually led the Blitzz into the playoffs while carrying a nagging injury.

In the National Championship match against Carolina, Byron didn't start for Utah due to that injury and the Blitzz found themselves down 2-0 before he finally entered the contest in the 52nd minute. Shortly after, he chested a ball down to a teammate who scored to make it 2-1. In the 88th minute, Byron lofted an exquisitely executed strike sailing high over the keeper and into the top corner at the back post to make it 2-2.

Just minutes later, he dug a ball off the end line dragging it back into the area for what should have been the match and title winner but the resulting shot was narrowly over the bar and the game would end 2-2 and go to penalties where the Utah Blitzz won the championship! That was the final match for the franchise as they were disbanded when MLS announced their expansion team, Real Salt Lake.

Back with the newly named Ocean City Barons in 2005, Byron was doing what he does best, scoring goals and threatening the opponents at every opportunity and leading the team to another successful season (12-3-1) and an even deeper run into the U.S. Open Cup. 

Byron brings his skill and desire back to the Barons in many ways, but not just on the pitch for the PDL squad. Byron is an active coach of several South Jersey Baron youth sides along with his key striker role for the senior squad.

Byron remembers the key role that his own mentors meant to his success and he's taking an active role in seeing to it that some of today's youth benefit from his experience too. Like many other members of the Barons PDL team, he's doing whatever he can to help in the development of area youngsters and give them a quality experience. Showing that he's not just a dangerous and productive striker. There is another side to Byron Carmichael that you don't see on the pitch.
