Banshees beat Delaware State Champs in the final

Kirkwood, DE - The South Jersey Banshees U14 Girls won the 2006 Jimmy Dilenno Labor Day Tournament by beating Kirkwood Glory (DE) 2-1 in the Championship game. The final was a very competitive game that swung from end to end with plenty of scoring opportunities for both teams.

Kirkwood, DE - The South Jersey Banshees U14 Girls won the 2006 Jimmy Dilenno Labor Day Tournament by beating Kirkwood Glory(DE) 2-1 in the Championship game. The final was a very competitive game that swung from end to end with plenty of goal scoring opportunities for both teams.

Kirkwood took an early lead finishing off a nice play with a shot from just inside the box that found the bottom corner. The Banshees soon fought back when Nicole Bryan played a great through ball for Mellissa Normant to run on to, Normant chipped the onrushing keeper to tie the game. Kierstan Smith then pounced on a loose ball in the kirkwood box and calmly found the back of the net to make it 2-1.

The final five minutes were extremely frantic, the Delaware state champions refused to accept defeat and had a shot rebound of the crossbar. The Glory kept on attacking the Banshees goal in search for the equalizer however the defence cleared their lines and held on to claim the title.

The Banshees kept three clean sheets on their way to the final by beating Abingdon FC Riptide (MD) 2-0, White Marsh Wildfire (MD) 3-0, and the Haddonfield Bulldawgs (NJ) 1-0.
