Ocean City FC Under 20 Women Excelling at College Level

The Ocean City FC Under 20 Women have gone back to college and taken with them the knowledge and improved ability levels that were developed during the 2011 summer season down on the Jersey shore.

One of the outstanding talents from the summer, Sophomore Sara Volkz-Perez (pictured right) has started her season with Arcadia University in exhilarating style scoring 7 goals from 10 starts. The skillful forward has helped her school to an 8-2-1 overall record, also picking up athlete of the week awards within her program.
Another Ocean City FC player, tough tackling defender Kelly Gallagher, has made 10 starts racking up 721 minutes of action, more than anyone else on the Arcadia Knights roster.

Ocean City FC’s ever present left-back Nicole Berson (pictured left) is in her Sophomore year at Florida Institute of Technology helping them to an overall record of 7-2-0. Nicole went down to Florida to study Biology and has become an integral member of the Panthers squad. Early in the season Nicole told us “In 2010 Florida Tech went to the NCAA Division II Final 4, finishing fourth, this year we’re expecting to repeat last year’s playoff run, hoping to make it further in the final 4 this season. Pre-season was way harder than last year, but was much more fun. This year’s incoming freshmen are at a very high level and easily fill any holes lost to seniors leaving.”

Speedy forward Morgan Gabriel (pictured right), who has been with Ocean City FC since a young age, has been named the WVIAC women’s soccer Player of the Week. Morgan, a sophomore from Egg Harbor, N.J., rocketed home the game-winning goal in the 2-1 win over Davis & Elkins in the Rams’ lone match of the week. The golden goal allowed Shepherd to remain unbeaten in WVIAC action. Morgan has helped Shepherd University to an overall record of 5-4-0 but a conference record of 3-0-0 putting them firmly in a playoff position. Her 3 goals in 5 starts is fulfilling the promise she began showing in the blue and white of Ocean City FC.
