Ocean City’s Premier Development League (PDL) team is looking to their great fans for a new identity. After 13 seasons of representing South Jersey as one of the top teams in North America, and a leader in youth development, the club dropped the name "Barons" after severing ties with the South Jersey Barons Youth Academy. The club is now known simply as "Ocean City FC." With 2010 marking the beginning of a new era, the club is asking fans to submit their suggestions for a new team name for the Ocean City-based PDL team and all of their Super Y-League teams.

Team names we can’t use
Royals Lions
Mariners Blues
Riptide Islanders
Tide Pirates
Ospreys Whitecaps
Seahorses  Sting Rays
Any existing USL team name
The club is looking for a name that reflects the Ocean City, NJ area or the Jersey Shore. (Please, no names with references to a certain reality TV show on MTV.). Just like the old name (Ocean City Barons), the city of Ocean City will remain at the beginning of the new name. The only thing that will change is the nickname.

Thanks to the team’s great relationship with English Championship side Reading FC, they will adopt Reading’s team colors of royal blue and white. Additional team name options could be ones that relate to Reading FC, however, the club’s nickname, the "Royals" is already taken by another PDL team.

To enter, send an email to namethatteam@ocbarons.com with your name and contact info. The deadline for entries is 11:59 p.m. on February 7. Only one entry per person. If the winning entry is submitted by multiple people, there will be a drawing to determine the prize winner. The grand prize winner will be awarded a pair of season tickets and a 2010 Reading FC jersey.

The club will also be accepting entries at the Euro Sports Center in Egg Harbor, NJ on the final day of the contest. On February 7, Ocean City FC will be holding tryouts for their Super Y-League teams beginning at 9 a.m. until 6:30 p.m., and fans can stop by to submit their team name suggestions.
